ISEB Software Test: Origins And Implications

ISEB is a division of BCS (The British Computer Society), and was initially founded in 1990 to update and replace the older Systems Analysis Board (SAB) which was originally started at the beginning of the computer era, around 1967.

BCS has set the standards for the IT industry. There are more that 65,000 members of BCS in 100-plus countries throughout the world. The need for accurate and efficient IT services has exploded over the past few years and concurrently the need for reliable training and certification criteria became imperative. BCS established ISEB to unify and set consistent standards of excellence in the IT Services and particularly in the area of the ISEB Software Test.

ISEB (Information Systems Examinations Board), while not a training facility, ensures the candidates it certifies meet the standards for professionalism, excellence and consistency in training for the needs of the information technology (IT) services industry today.

The ISEB provides examinations and certifications for an inclusive variety of subjects in the IT engineering field. ISEB also promotes thorough training for candidates through its accreditation process for institutions of learning in these fields. The ISEB Software Test is administered as part of the ISEB certification criteria.

The requirements for receiving a certificate with the ISEB Software Test include the candidate's ability to demonstrate software testing skills, best practice in setting up tests, appropriate methodology using testing tools and determining test results, and mastery of reference materials and technique during the ISEB Software Test.

Candidates for the ISEB Software Test are required to submit a professional resume, a bibliography of texts and reference books they have utilized in their study on their projects and any papers and projects they have written during the course of their studies. Good record keeping and proficiency in data entry are a must, as well as proficiency with different modalities of testing and reprogramming software specifications.

The training for the ISEB Software Test Courses must take place in an accredited institution of learning. ISEB approves accreditation for training organizations which meet their criteria for syllabus content, competent tutors and a good learning environment. Many of these courses can be taken online or in a classroom/lab setting combined with online courses. ISEB then provides consistent testing which meets the standards for certification in the IT field.

The question of professional competence, accuracy of results and appropriate knowledge level is put to rest when a candidate completes an ISEB certificate in any area of IT testing.
